New MID Platform- A Joint Venture By LG & Intel

LG electronics and Intel Corporation announced to bring MID; mobile
internet device in collaboration. It is an effort to bring high quality internet experiences through mobiles.
This MID is designed basing on Intel’s advanced MID hardware platform and for software support, Linux-based Moblin v2.0 software platform to do the needful of today technological demands. Intel’s hardware platform for MID is named as ‘Moorestown’, hopefully bring new dimensions to mobile phones.
Executive vice president of LG Electronics and head of its Mobile Communications Business Division, Jung Jun Lee said, “The MID segment will drive growth at LG Electronics. We chose Intel’s next-generation Moorestown platform and Moblin-based OS to pursue this segment because of the high performance and Internet compatibility this brings to our service provider customers.”
It is expected that these LGs will be the first of their kind to hit the market with Moorestown. MIDs based on Moorestown are expected to reduce idle power consumption. They will be helpful in bringing PC like interaction capabilities to the mobile world.
Intel Corporation senior vice president and general manager of the company’s Ultra Mobility Group, said, “We look forward to providing them (LG) some fantastic Intel products that will deliver the best Internet experience while dramatically reducing power –contributing to the development of ultra sleek devices that offer superb battery life.”
This joint venture product is another step forward for LG and Intel. Previously LG launched an Intel® Atom processor based netbook, and Intel® Core™ processor.
