Peter Douglas Molyneux is not a new name for gaming world; this brilliant mind has been there since long creating awesome games. Born in 1959, the 50 years old Molyneux has been promoted to the position of creative director for Microsoft Gaming studios by Microsoft. After being the highlighted figure at E3, this promotion isn’t an unexpected event.

Molyneux began his career in 1982 with the creation of Taurus; founded by him and Les Edgar. They used to distribute and sell out floppy disks that contained video games compatible with Atari and Commodore 64. In 1984, his first effort as game designer and programmer came into limelight with “The Entrepreneur”. It was a text based business simulation game, which proved to be a failure.

In 1987, he founded “The Bullfrog,” which produced a number of successful games like Populous, Populous II: Trials of the Olympian Gods, Theme Park, and Magic Carpet etc. In 1997, he left Bullfrog to establish Lionhead Studios. Lionhead studios produced great games including Black & White, Black & White 2, Black & White 2: Battle of the Gods, Fable, Fable: The Lost Chapters, Fable 2 etc. Their latest project is “Project Natal” that took Microsoft right in the center of attention at E3. This seems to be the reason behind Molyneux’s promotion.

Now, this intelligent designer will be heading creative direction of Microsoft Gaming Studios, doing his job at Lionhead Studios and helping a bit at Rare. MS invests great deal of trust in him by saying that he, “will bring a unique set of skills and an in-depth understanding of the games development process to this newly created role.” Good luck Mr. Molyneux!
