Microsoft and Amazon Shaking Hands in a Patent Licensing Deal

It has been released at the start of this week that Microsoft and Amazon have been move forwarded to each other through a patent cross-licensing deal and it has also been notified that Amazon will pay Microsoft an undisclosed amount of money as part of the agreement while Microsoft is completely quite about the products in which Amazon is interested but the company told media that the Amazon kindle and some other property software contents have been covered in this deal.

Microsoft’s corporate vice president and deputy general counsel for intellectual property and Licensing said in a statement “Microsoft’s patent portfolio is the largest and strongest in the software industry, and this agreement demonstrates our mutual respect for intellectual property as well as our ability to reach pragmatic solutions to IP issues regardless of whether proprietary or open source software is involved.” It has also been notified that Microsoft has also signed deals with other vendors on the same issues and some among them includes Novell, LG electronics and Fuji Xerox and these all deals are part of the IP licensing program which was kicked off by Microsoft in 2002. According to Microsoft this licensing program is aimed to give an access of its research and development efforts and growing portfolios to the other companies of the world.
