A portable computer is becoming an essentiality these days. Whether you
are a business executive, a university student or a professor; the need to have your personalized portable computer is increasing day by day. Economy of the world is stuck in crises, affecting individual’s financial status, too. Not every one has the pocket to buy a Sony Vaio or Asus’ Eee PC. People need not show off, but a machine which is fully equipped with all essential features of a laptop and which is not a dent on their pockets.
It isn’t that for you, only low-spec net books are available in low prices. There are few laptops out in the market which are quite affordable and are packed with necessary features. Let us have a look at four of them, which are less than £299.
HP 550:
Simply, but practically designed, this laptop doesn’t seem to be low priced. It is made from hard and tough plastic which protects the outer frame and the screen as well. It has a wide screen bright and really nice display of 15.4”, which works perfectly for web browsing, photo editing and movie viewing. There are 3 USB ports, all on the sides and none at the back.
Central processing unit is Intel Celeron. Regarding keyboard; it is quite easy to use as the dip in centre protects the fingers from slipping off, though the rattling voice is a hitch. Also, the mouse buttons have a very soft response to them.
This laptop is not made for gaming. You will be quite happy with this laptop if your needs are basic and curtailed to word processing and video viewing. For £299, this is a nice machine.
Toshiba Satellite Pro L300-1AD:
Keeping in mind the requirements of a corporate user, Toshiba has
manufactured this laptop packing it with necessary elements as well as giving it an affordable price tag of £299. The 15.4” wide screen is almost the same as HP 550, displaying vivid and crisp images.
It is a lightweight laptop with 2.6 kg, and is made from hard plastic, keeping it safe from drops. Even after long hours of work, it does not get hot but remains quite cool. Battery life is about 3 hours per charging. Designing gives enough space for a nice non-rattling keyboard.
Both fixed and wireless connectivity is provided. There isn’t any memory card reader slot, and hard drive is of 120GB. It is good option for corporate users.
Asus X58C:
At a price of £269, Asus offers this not very ordinary laptop in a simple but attractive design. The 15.4” Super-TFT display is quite nice, and DVD rewriter optical drive takes it above average. The X series of Asus is aimed at being low priced.
Around 2 hours of battery life is a negative point. Nicely fitted keyboard and good responding mouse buttons are positive features, though the user won’t be able to play a lot of games.
Acer eMachines E520-571G16Mi:
It is another 15.4” Super-TFT wide screen bright display machine in £299.
Integrated Intel GPU handles graphics, providing a better quality video viewing than the above mentioned PCs. Though, this is also not fit for gaming. The dark outer cover is hard and firm. Display is not quite good when in sunlight.
Final Words:
These are all affordable laptops with wide screens and about 2-4 hours of battery life. For entry level users, they are indeed good options which are also reasonably priced.
