Consumers still prefer traditional TV and movies to online downloads, survey finds
Who is there that pays for online video? You are? If you have been doing so,
just reckon yourself in the minority, as a survey report suggests that the reason behind online videos’ impressive growth is that these videos are still free and most of people still seem to prefer time-honored TV and movies.
According to this survey, only 31% households (with broadband connections) in Western Europe downloaded stuff like a TV show or a movie from the Internet for free while only 8% paid for some downloads.
John Barrett, director of the research firm, says about the survey: “There are many media companies who want to outpace for-pay offerings with their free offers, but the real problem is to find out what consumers prefer when it comes to watch videos.”
The survey suggests that still nearly 80% consumers pick the traditional route like DVD or TV to watch videos and if online video watching is growing, free offers are the factors behind it.
