The introduction of iPhone has brought in a great revolution in mobile phones. Though Motorola RAZAR had been the best selling iPhones for the past three years, Apple has replaced it with its new generation iPhones.
Apple, with its first generation iPhone 2G has now come up with the 2nd generation iPhone 3G,which is an improved version. Even though the 2nd generation and 3rd generation iPhones misses some basic features, they have brought in a revolution into cell phones. In this article, we can look into some of the basic differences between the two generations of Apple iPhones.
Coming to design and dimensions, there is not much difference between the Apple iPhone 2G and Apple iPhone 3G. Both the iPhones have the same screen size of 3.5″, which gives a screen resolution of 480×320. When it comes to the colour, the Apple iPhone 2G has a smooth metal finish with a black strip at the bottom in its rear side. There is a shiny metal piece surrounding the side of the phone and ending behind the screen in the front side.
Meanwhile, Apple iPhone 3G has a smooth piano black or white finish in its rear. A shiny metal piece runs around the outside of the screen. The features buttons of Apple iPhone 3G comes in shiny metals, which gives it a more sturdier feel than the Apple iPhone 2G. While the Apple iPhone 2G is a little thicker and seems to be completely flat when set down, the Apple iPhone 3G gives a feeling of roundness. Both the first generation and second generation are quite impressive in their looks.
The Apple iPhone 3G is a modified version of the Apple iPhone 2G and as such more features can be found in the 2nd generation Apple iPhones. The Apple iPhone 2G does not support WiFi, GSM and Bluetooth where as the Apple iPhone 3G supports it. It means that surfing the Internet using Apple iPhone 3G has become faster. With the introduction of 3G speeds, surfing the Internet, downloading data, watching YouTube has become easier and faster.
While GSM and Quad-Band (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz) are the frequencies that that the first generation iPhone supports, the 2nd generation supports UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz) apart from that of the first generation iPhones. The Apple iPhone 3G supports GPS, which was not included in the first generation iPhone.
Talking of camera, both have the same 2MP camera, but they do not have a a video recorder. The Apple iPhone 3G weighs less when compared to the Apple 2G. In battery life, the Apple iPhone 2G is still the best. While one can get 8 hours of talk-time in Appple iPhone 2G, it is just 5 hours with the Apple iPhone 3G.
Another difference between the first and the second generation Apple iPhones is that the screen of the 3G heats to a warmer temperature than the other.
Though the Apple iPhone 2G is impressive, the Apple 3G is still more catchy with added features.
