An all purpose laptop is one which is not best at something like graphics or ultra portability or awesome design etc; it is simple portable computer designed especially to meet all the basic needs of a consumer like web browsing, emailing, document reading and processing, movie watching etc, by compromising on the design and some hi-fi features. A similar product has been manufactured by Acer called the Acer TravelMate 6293-6889. Let us have a look at the specs of this all purpose notebook:

Features:
You are not dealing with a stylish Sony Vaio or a trendy Apple MacBook; here is a simple broad spectrum portable computer system that allows you to do most of the computer related chores, but denies offering awesome looks and vivid lid colors. Also, forget your anticipations about an ultra lightweight notebook; TravelMate 6293–6889 is not one.
Now, let us talk about the awesome performance of this not so beautiful lappie. The TravelMate 6293-6889 offers an overwhelming battery life per charge, reaching almost 8 hours. Such a remarkable battery life is sure to get you rid of bearing the load of charger wherever you go. It will be enough to charge it once in the morning before going to the office or school and you will not need to recharge it until you come back home after working full-time on the portable.
It has a 2 GB RAM, and 2.26-GHz Core 2 Duo P8400. The speed of TravelMate does not disappoint at all; it runs pretty well. It lacks a dedicated graphics card, as most of the ordinary small laptops. The 12.1-inch, 1280-by-800-pixel, wide-aspect display is not intense for eyes, and shows a nicely crisp picture.
Keyboard has seven quick launch buttons, all of which are programmed. Typing with TravelMate’s keyboard is a nice experience. Trackpad is small but easy to use, but has too little mouse buttons. The 250GB HDD, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and built in webcam make it worth buying.
Pros:
- Amazing battery life
- Nicely-designed keyboard
Cons:
- Lacks a FireWire port
- Older PC Card slot
Final Words:
Though it is not an ultra portable; it is much lighter than other all purpose laptops that cost less than $1000. The top-notch battery life is its unique selling point, undoubtedly, as longer battery hours are what a consumer demands from a portable computer.
