There was a time when no App Store for iPhone and iPod Touch existed;Jailbreak iPhone Applications this was the time before July 2008. Do you think that users of these devices had no means to install 3rd party applications onto their gadgets? No, it wasn’t like that. Then, there existed a process by which one could install fun and useful apps on to iPhone or iPod Touch, called “Jailbreaking.” These devices had to be busted open in order to install 3rd party apps. It is needless to tell that those apps were not approved by Apple. Now that we have the App Store, the jailbreaking community hasn’t ceased to exist. The reasons that Apple has banned these apps are exploitation of certain iPhone features or they do not fit Apple’s vision of iPhone’s usability.  Here are few such apps which have been banned by Apple, and this is the reason that you will not find them at the App Store. Only jailbroken iPhones and iPods can install and enjoy these applications. Let us have a look at few of them.

Cyntact:

If we talk about the integrated iPhone contact directory, it only allows you to store pictures of contacts that you can see when they call you or you call them. Here is the point where Cyntact takes the lead. It stores contacts’ photos in the directory, and shows them even when you are navigating through the contact list to find a contact. This pictorial directory makes finding a contact easier by looking at the photos along with their names. In simple words, it shows profile pictures in the contact list. It will cost you $1.

Voicemail Forwarder:

Why should you keep a voice mail captive in your iPhone? There should be a way to forward it. Voicemail Forwarder allows you to do so. With the help of this $2.49 application, you can forward a voicemail to (a) an email address of yours for the purpose of archiving, or (b) an email address of a friend of yours to share a funny message. You can forward these voicemails directly from the inbuilt Visual Voicemail app of iPhone only, and will be unable to benefit from it if you do not have Visual Voicemail app in your phone.

iPhoneCategories:

There should be a way to organize randomly placed apps of the iPhone. With this free application, you can categorize your applications, and group them in to a number of folders. These folders scroll in a horizontal way. This is a nice way to give a neat and defined look to your iPhone screen.

Cycorder:

Authored by Freeman, it is a free application that turns your iPhone into a wonderful still photo camera and a camcorder. It will allow you to record videos with your iPhone at frame rates from 6 to 15 frames per second. Resulting movies are QuickTime videos, and are playable on Mac.

Snapture:

It is a $7.99 application used to enhance the functionality level of the built in camera of iPhone. It is an ad free application, allowing you to take pictures, email the best of them, and delete the rest. Moreover, it offers silent snapping, timer, image resizing, auto rotation, digital zoom, color mode, burst mode, and leveler.

This is all for today. These were few top notch applications, which have been banned by Apple, but looking at the functionality they provide, Apple must give them a second thought.
